1945. január 27-én szabadult fel a leghírhedtebb náci haláltábor, Auschwitz-Birkenau. Az ENSZ közgyűlése 2005-ben emléknappá nyilvánította január 27-ét. Fontosnak tartják a hatmillió áldozatra való megemlékezést, valamint oktatási programok indítását azért, hogy hasonló szörnyűségek ne történhessenek újra. Az emléknapon kiállítás nyílt a pécsi Rácz Aladár Közösségi Házban.
