1943. január 12. a magyar hadtörténet egyik legsötétebb napja. 80 évvel ezelőtt a Don-kanyarban a jelentős létszámfölénnyel bíró, jól felszerelt szovjet Vörös Hadsereg támadásba lendült, így a 250 ezer fős II. magyar hadsereg kötelékéhez tartozó katonák, munkaszolgálatosok közül megközelítőleg 130 ezren estek el, sebesültek meg, vagy kerültek fogságba. Ezen a napon Szekszárdon is rájuk emlékeznek.
