Mintegy harmincezer fővel és 1300 négyzetkilométerrel nőtt a tizenöt percen belül elérhető terület azzal, hogy Pécsről Szekszárdra került a légimentő bázis. A megyei jogú város 2007-ben már biztosított egy 4400 négyzetméteres telket a megépítéséhez. A tolnai megyeszékhely ipari parkjában elkészült bázist ünnepélyesen Rétvári Bence, a Belügyminisztérium parlamenti államtitkára és Csató Gábor, az Országos Mentőszolgálat főigazgatója avatta fel.
